REBOOT : RESTART : LIFE 2.04

Work Mode – ON !

While picking up all the existential skills and new hobbies during the covid forced stay-at-home phase, one thing which kept picking at the back of my mind was the need to get a taste of real corporate life. I was well aware of it being a necessity for college credit points, but at a personal level too I was equally eager to explore the various opportunities available.

Thus having made my mind to search for an adequate internship, I set myself at the task. First step was to choose a specialisation and after lot of search and studying industry trends, settled in for the field of “Digital Marketing”. A major role in this regard was also played by my earlier skillset of a series of Google certifications I had undertaken as part of upgrading my knowledge.

In the entire tenure, I interned with 2 diverse companies - Venuegide and Delhi-very. as a matter of fact, my internship at Delhi-very is still on at the time of writing this blog and I have been enjoying it immensely. I will be sharing experiences at both the places below and also how each one benefitted me individually.

1.     Venuegide - got aware about the vacancy at tis place through the website of Internshala. They were a start-up and I really liked their vision statement and the fact that it was a young platform. Applied and got interviewed for nearly an hour. The director is a young entrepreneur who really knew her ship well and also the kind of crew she wanted aboard. She checked me on google certifications, practical application of skills acquired online, my reason of joining them, my vision for self in 10 years’ time and soon. By the time it ended, I fell in love with the picture she drew for me and really wanted in. couple of days, an email confirmed my position and joined the team eagerly. We were a small team of interns working on the company’s social profile via various platforms and each was assigned few tasks. This internship actually taught me the behind the scene management of social profile, tips and tricks required to do it. In the process, while my own knowledge was used, I also ended up learning up quite a bit of new digital techniques and jargons. Each Monday morning meeting, taught me the value of working as a team and also keeping each other updated on he progress all the time. I felt myself blossoming from a new joinee to become an important part in the team. The time spent at this internship was a real investment and moulded my thinking process towards a very productive bent.

2.     Delhi-very – the second place I chose for my internship was via professional networking platform LinkedIn. I approached them via direct message and HR soon set me up for an interview with the media department head. After a series of Q&A rounds from their end, they took me through a video of company profile and I was suitably impressed. Started by a team of your entrepreneur’s, delivery was rising fast up the ladder in the logistics field. The writing was clear on the wall for me. This was an organization on a growth spree and thus super apt for someone like me who wanted to learn a lot about various digital marketing avenues. Soon, I cleared all the interview rounds and became part of the client servicing team in digital team. The profile requires me to be digitally vigilant on the company’s site all the time along with its various social handles on twiter, Instagram, facebook and snapchat. Role is critical as its super important for a growing organization to catch all its customer greivances at an early stage and nip all issues in the bud. Every day starts and ends with a small team meeting, where we each update about the day learnings and also flag off any major issues. A manager mentors set of 2 interns each and coaches us throughout the day on handling of any dispute. Few things which would like to call out as part of my on-going learning here are:-

a.      teamwork is super important. Not one person can win it all on his/her own.

b.     Time management is important. Half the grievance ends if you catch them at an early stage and connect.

c.      A satisfied client is worth more than any advertisement because word of mouth is still the best medium for any business.

d.     Listening is more important especially when you are not facing the client directly. We learnt to listen the written words and understand the angst of the client. Accordingly I was able to be part of solving few big issues for the company.

e.      No task is small – everyone contributes and each contribution is equally important. An intern has his/her place as a manager.

f.       Last but not the least, it’s very important to keep learning new things and updating yourself.

So my lovely readers keep learning and keep exploring !

TakeCare.
